Courses for young people (aged 10 - 15) « Back

Young students have been coming to Southbourne School for over 30 years. We were probably the first school in Bournemouth to accept young students. The school being ideally situated in Southbourne, the homestay accommodation available and the experience of the teachers and staff, provide a safe environment for young people.

The experience built up over many years helps to ensure that the students are well-looked after and happy. Students, no matter what age, are unable to study if they do not feel happy, relaxed and contented.

Bournemouth Centre
With its mild climate and parks full of sub-tropical plants, Bournemouth (population 165,000), is often called "The Garden City of the English Riviera".

The modern centre, with its numerous businesses and exclusive shopping facilities, contrasts successfully with its quiet Victorian suburbs in which the Southbourne School occupies purpose-built premises, just ten minutes walk away from the seafront.

Bournemouth's attractions include the world famous Symphony Orchestra, theatres, concert venues, cinemas, and ethnic restaurants which combine with its many overseas and English visitors to create a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The town makes an ideal centre for exploring the beautiful English countryside and historical sights of Southern England. Students have lessons at SSE in the afternoon and sports and activities are organised during free times. SSE's aim is to help young students become proficient in aspects of English and master reading, writing and oral skills.

Tunbridge Wells
SSE operates its residential course at Beechwood School in Kent, less than an hour from London. This prestigious private school was founded in 1915 and is set in extensive grounds just 15 minutes walk from the centre of the famous spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. A balanced academic studies and structured activities programme ensures that progress is made within the happy, caring atmosphere of Beechwood School.

Experiences are shared with new friends around the world offering a wonderful chance to be part of a truly international group. From arrival to departure, constant supervision and individual attention means that every student has the freedom to experience an unforgettable holiday.

Beechwood School offers well-equipped classrooms, activity rooms, excellent sports facilities including a heated swimming pool and a spacious restaurant. The dormitories are clean and attractively decorated, accommodating between two and four students. The school is conveniently situated close to London's two main airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. Within easy reach are the historic cities of Canterbury and Brighton, both of which offer places of interest to explore and a wide range of shops to visit.
