Mrs Marchiori-White
retires after 24 years.
Mrs Marchiori-White retired
earlier this year after 24 years. She is missed by staff
and students and I am sure that everyone wishes her a relaxing
and happy retirement. The teaching staff remains otherwise
unchanged.
"I joined Southbourne School of English
as Academic Principal at the end of June, just in time
for summer. My first day seems like a distant memory now
and I can’t believe
four months have passed so quickly. I was probably as apprehensive
as the new students that started at the school on the same
day as me but the warm, welcoming atmosphere meant that we
all settled in very quickly. Summer finished, along with
the Bournemouth fireworks that our students enjoyed so much
and as we head towards Christmas there are lots of things
happening at school."
Exams
The examination classes have started
and the students are getting to grips with transformations
and transactional letters. Last minute nerves won’t
set in just yet. We are making full use of our library,
each class having the opportunity to use the library during
lesson time.
RELSA Halloween Dance
Friday 22nd was the RELSA Halloween Dance.
This is an annual event to raise money for charity organised
by the recognised English language schools in Bournemouth.
Most of our students went along, many in fancy dress – they
looked fantastic as devils and witches with their face
paint and costumes.
Infospeed
Our new computer system, from Infospeed, is keeping everyone
very busy at the moment but will help us be even more efficient
than we already are.
Football
On
Sunday there was a football competition between the schools
in Bournemouth. We were very lucky with the weather – it
was warm, and there was no rain. Unfortunately, that is where
our luck ran out!! The first game was drawn in the last minute
of the match, and we lost the second and third games (but
only just). Our goals were scored by Gianofranco from Italy
and Tomofumi from Japan. Everyone played really well and
the space where the trophy would have been put can be used
for other things. The New Forest is beautiful at this time
of year and Adam plans to take the students there for some
of the Friday afternoon trips.
